CWF - Priscilla meetings

Christian Women's Fellowship
Midwest Boulevard Christian Church
1955-2004

Midwest Boulevard Christian Church's Christian Women's Fellowship has been meeting since 1955.  From 1955 until 1959, there was one CWF group that met during the day.  In 1959, the Guild was formed as a separate group for women who worked outside the home and could not attend day groups. The Guild had separate officers, finances and projects although they often cooperated with CWF projects.  A list of the presidents of the various groups has been compiled and is attached.
As one would guess, a copy of each CWF Yearbook was not found.  A book from 1963-64 lists each woman by her husband's first name.  In that year, the Mary Group was led by Mrs. Bill Way, the Martha Group by Mrs. E. W. Pribble, and the Ruth Group by Mrs. John Weisiger.  In 1976-77, only one CWF group met.  In 1986-87, the Guild Group changed its name to the Lydia/Guild and became a part of CWF.  This corresponded with the various groups or "circles" meeting together several times each year as one group known as the General CWF.
The General CWF had a President who presided over the General CWF group meetings.  The individual groups were the Mary Martha Group (daytime) and the Lydia/Guild (nighttime.)   In 1987-88, the young women formed a separate group called YAWWHOO (Young Adult Women Who Hold Our Own); Donna Duhon was president of that group for two years.  After that, YAWWHOO dissolved.  In 1989-90, the Koinonia Group met with Faye Sealy as first president.  The following year, Susan Darnell was president of Koinonia, then it seems the group changed its name to Rebecca, with Susan Darnell as president.  After that, the Rebecca Group no longer met. Then in 1992-93 the Priscilla Group was formed.  This group has been meeting monthly ever since.
The purpose of CWF is to provide opportunities for spiritual growth, enrichment, education, and creative ministries to enable women to develop a sense of personal responsibility for the whole mission of the Church of Jesus Christ.  Some of the past projects for CWF have been to provide curtains for the then new Activities Center, a church van, a pulpit Bible, the front sidewalk, hymnals, attendance registration folders, and equipment for the kitchen.
CWF makes a budget.  Most of the money goes to Church Finance Council to help provide DISCIPLES MISSION FUND for the outreach mission of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ.)  The Oklahoma Christian Home is included in the budget.  Each Fifth Grade child in church receives a Bible from CWF.  Countless bake sales and other activities have contributed to special projects of the Church.  Since 1983 when CWF started selling valentines for blankets for disaster victims, $7,285 has been raised and 1,457 blankets purchased!
The history of the Christian Women's Fellowship at Midwest Boulevard Christian Church has been the story of women working together with eyes opened to the needs of the world and with concern for all people, trying to truly serve our Lord, Jesus Christ.
